Rev. Kathleen McMurray, Senior Pastor

Kathleen McMurray began as the Senior Pastor of Cornerstone July 2017.

She grew up in Little Rock, AR, and graduated from Parkview Arts/Science Magnet. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors and a BA in Theater Studies from Louisiana State University and holds a Masters of Divinity Degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.

Before serving under pastoral appointment, Kathleen worked at Ozark Mission Project, First United Methodist Church Little Rock, and Park Ridge Community Church in Park Ridge, IL. She also spent one year in Thailand working with Borderless Friendship Foundation. She served under appointment in Conway, AR, and was ordained in the Arkansas Annual Conference in 2016 before coming to Cornerstone.

Three things I value about pastoral ministry in The United Methodist Church:
1) Unity & Diversity:  We are united in Christ, but diverse in our faith and our expressions of faith.  I am passionate about building bridges and seeing how diverse groups of people work together to share the love of God in Christ that transforms lives.  As John Wesley said, “In our essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; and in all things, charity.”

2) Relationships:  I am passionate about people and value the relational nature of pastoral ministry in the UMC – relationships with congregants, relationships with our communities, relationships across the connection, all of which are grounded in our relationship with the Triune God.

3) Service & Mission Focus: The United Methodist Church is a denomination with a powerful history of mission and service-oriented ministry – reaching outside our buildings to change lives in our communities.

Rev. Sam Meadors, Secondary Appointment

Sam preaches regularly as needed and teaches a weekly Bible study for Wednesday Night Live.  She is energetic, passionate, and loves the Lord.  She also has a special heart for college students!

Sam has been part of the Cornerstone family since July 2015.

Joslyn Johnson, Administrative Secretary

Joslyn’s favorite scripture is Romans 8:28: “…We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

She enjoys being able to help others in their ministries.  Joslyn coordinates all church scheduling, oversees administrative and secretarial duties, and is the first face most of you see when dropping by the church.

Joslyn has served since June 2015.  She and her families are faithful and active members of Cornerstone.

Before coming to Jonesboro, Laura has taught piano lessons for six years and served in four other United Methodist Churches in Mississippi. Laura has a wonderful heart for leading people in worship through music and welcomes anyone who wishes to participate in music ministries at Cornerstone to join!

Taylor has been active in District Committee on Youth Ministry, the Arkansas Conference Committee on Youth Ministry, and Choir Tour.  She loves taking our youth to Veritas, Assembly, and rallies.  She is passionate about Jesus and an excellent intern.

She has previously worked as Youth Minister at St. Paul United Methodist Church and for Ozark Mission Project on College Staff and as a Communications and Development Intern. She has a heart for Christ and leading young people. If you have a heart for leading children in faith and would like to get involved, Alyssa would love to help you find a place to serve!

Andrea Newsom, Nursery Director

Andrea graduated from Arkansas State University in 2008 with a B.A. in Sociology. It was at ASU where she became involved with the Wesley, and met her husband Drake. They married in 2010, traveled the world, and have come home to raise their family. She has always enjoyed working with children and loves being able to serve in this capacity.
